The challenge of photographing in the park, of course, is that there is really no light. Even in the back alleys of Red Hook, there is a lot of reflected light from the street lamps and buildings. The Digital Rebel can do a maximum exposure of 30 seconds, which is not enough. With the digital remote control, you can do bulb shots for longer times, but I haven't gotten around to buying one of those yet. I'd love to do five minute exposures on f22 or something- that might produce something interesting. Anyway- for the present it's a moot point, because my Digital Rebel is having an "Error 99" problem, and has to be sent back to Canon for servicing. It looks like I'll be shooting with the G2 for the next couple of weeks.

You make the most out of those 30 seconds. Great shots. I especially like the dotted line in the third shot. That's a pretty fine detail to capture.

Whoo yeah!
just wanna say i always love your pictures
many thanks for your blog :)

Are you sure about the 30-second maximum on the 300D? I just tried it without my remote, exposing a photo for about a minute in manual mode. Does it limit exposure in one of the other modes?

As an aside, I was also having the Err 99 problem with my 18-55mm lens. Turned out the lens motor was shot. Took them about 10 days to repair and return it :\

i thought you can do bulb shots by holding down the button for unlimited amounts of time- but that would introduce shake into the picture. the remote allows you to click once to open the shutter, and click again to close it, without shaking the camera.

sad to hear about the Digital Rebel problems. in any case, nice park photographs...

Holy crap I play softball on that field, and you made it look beautiful. Love the water shots, too....

Some of these photos--the top one and the bottom two--are not just to die for, ...they are to live for!
