Fort Totten is the most peaceful place in Queens. It was decommissioned as a military base in the 70s, and while there's still some activity there (FDNY and army reserve training, an NYPD squad, and a public rec center), there is still plenty of open, quiet space. On one side of the base is the old Castle- a huge military fortification overlooking the Sound, with a creepy WWII addition jutting off into the woods. At the other end of the base, there's a set of abandoned barracks, and this old infirmary overlooking the water.
nice work dude. I've never checked that place out. looks cool.

Hi Jake,
I've been following your photoblog for about 2 years and don't usually comment, (actually, maybe never commented yet - I'm not sure) but I was really taken with this series of shots. Those empty rooms are so hauntingly sad. I can't imagine how many lives were saved - and lost - within these walls.
