Regarding Photography
"I want to reproduce the objects as they are, or as they would be even if I did not exist." --Taine [More quotes.]
Explanation
Bluejake is a photoblog run by me, Jake Dobkin, an amateur photographer living in Brooklyn. It focuses mainly on urban landscape.
First Time Visitors
If it is your first time here, take a look around the blog; I post a new picture on the front page nearly every day. A summary of that work is available in five posts: best of 2003, best of 2004, best of 2005, best of 2006, and the best of 2007. If you're still thirsty for more, check out the blog archives, which go back to February 2002. You could also check out the full list of entry tags. Finally, for the first few years I did the site, I also kept separate photo galleries for big events and trips-- you can find those in the old gallery section.
My Equipment
Canon SD950 and Canon D20 SLR. A Bogen Tracker 6' Tripod. 420EX flash. Canon EF USM lenses: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm. I also toy with some film cameras, including the Canon EOS-1 and Lomo Automatic.
My Processing
In general, I follow this process in Photoshop: RAW processor, curves (sometimes with gradients), and unsharp mask.
Influences
I admire the urban landscape photographs of Eugene Atget, Berenice Abbot, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Joel Sternfeld, Stephen Shore, Edward Burtynsky, and Bernd and Hilla Becher. But if I could paint like Edward Hopper, I wouldn't photograph at all.
More About Jake
I have a number of other projects online-- you can find out more about them at the Jake Dobkin page.
