February 15, 2002: Some Friends and Acquaintances

During the last couple of years, working in this weird new media industry, I've met a lot of talented people. Their work inspires some of my ideas about site design, user interface, and architecture, and I thought I'd share some of their sites with you, my non-existent audience.

First, there is Josh Reznick, one of my oldest friends and closest collaborators. After the med school debacle back in 1999, he helped me get settled downtown (living with his cousin Mike on Orchard Street) and find a job. Josh maintains a personal homepage at jrez.com.

At OVEN, a number of my coworkers maintain very interesting sites. Andrew Boardman, who has introduced me to many cool sites and applications, has a very nice art site at Manoverboard. I also like another art project he has on the web, The Golem. Brad Barwick, one of OVEN's talented Flash designers, keeps a site at Underblob, which features some of his very cool animations and transitions. Isabel Chang, a fresh designer who sits across from me, has her portfolio up at Doxa.net. Jeeyoon Rhee, another OVEN designer, has a beautiful Flash portfolio. Brian Spinks, a talented Site Builder who taught me a lot about CSS, keeps a very well designed site at Funky See, Funky Do. Jarod Kitchen, a polymath QA engineer and 3D animator, has been developing an absurdly cool looking game called Bludz. In OVEN's San Francisco office, Shannon Roy keeps a really nice photo site at Boxeye. There are many more talented people at OVEN with sites- I'll try to post more later.

Outside of OVEN, I know a whole bunch of people in this line of work. Two of my favorite: Stella Bugbee has her own company called Honest, which has done work for everyone from Kate Spade to Ween. Brett Webb and Susan Farrell still maintain ArtKrimes, one of the greatest sites on the Internet, while also working at Funny Garbage and Nielsen Norman Group, respectively.

Take a look at some of these sites- they are designed and run by people who know what they are doing.
