April 2, 2002: Spring Training

As I mentioned earlier, I'm on another athletic binge. It's not that I'm in lousy shape to begin with- but two years of riding a desk and drafting blueprints didn't exactly improve my physique. My training regiment is pretty straightforward: two or three trips to the gym combined with one or two long skates each week. At the gym I usually do cardio for forty minutes (treadmill and crosstrainer) followed by light lifting (biceps, chest, stomach). When I skate, I like to push distance more than speed, and I try to skate different paths. Since I love exploring the different parts of the city, I often pick routes that take me all over. Today I did about 12 miles up to Columbia and back along the following route:
