April 27, 2002: Two Bridges Redux
I dusted off the skates after a week of inactivity- mostly due to poor weather. After teaching this morning I felt pretty tired, but it seemed a shame to waste such a nice day- especially since it's supposed to rain tomorrow. The path below is a modified version of the first Two Bridges skate, but with a much shorter stop in Brooklyn. I was out the door around 5pm and back about 45 minutes later. Skating the bridges only takes about 20 minutes, but I like to skate slowly through Chinatown on the way back. Dodging SUVs with Garden State plates along Mott Street tends to slow things down- without even factoring in all the tourists. Sometimes I'll avoid the hassle by skating back on Church Street and West Broadway, but that's not as scenic. The Manhattan Bridge was largely empty, as usual, but the Brooklyn Bridge was crowded with all the Saturday traffic. Not a bad way to spend an hour.
