June 2, 2002: Day 2 / London to Edinburgh
8am Wake (rested), pack and watch CNN.
10am Arrive at King's Cross by taxi (4 pounds). Briefly on wrong line. Get on train at 10:30am, stuck in smoking car. Stomachache.
1pm Very drunk Scottsmen in car screaming at each other. Singing: "You can run, you can hide, but you can't escape my love..."
2:30pm Drunken Scottsman runs through adjoining car naked- later explains "I was raising a few guineas to buy a pint."
3:15pm Arrived at Waverley Station. Raining. Cab to Ballantrae Hotel on York Place in New Town. Lovely large room.
4pm Out in rain. Egg Mayo sandwich at Starbucks type place. Edinburgh tour bus around whole city. Very educational. Especially liked the alleys off the Royal Mile and Salisbury Crags behind the Holyrood Palace.
6pm Back at the hotel.
6:30pm Wandered up to Grassmarket Behind Edinburgh Castle. Very Quiet. Up steps to castle, down Bank Street to Princes Street.
7pm Dinner at Dome, very nice restaurant with giant dome, on George Street.
9pm Back at hotel- still looks bright out- like 5pm in New York.
