June 7, 2002: Day 7 / Amsterdam to the Hague
9am Wake, still tired after 8 hours of sleep. Minor stomachache.
10am Walk through Plantage area- past Hortus Botanicas and past Jood Museum to check email at EasyInternet by Rembrandtsplein. Thence to shopping on Kalverstraat where Eric bought a shirt and Karen got tights. After some discussion of what to do next, we decided on a boat cruise up canals from a nice place on Rokin.
12:30pm Cruised up Amstel to Herengracht and then down to Brouwersgracht (Brewer's Canal). Many nice houses and photo ops. Very interesting excursion into bay behind Centraal Station, and past NEMO to East side of town. Eventually back to Amstel and dock at Rokin.
2pm Lunch at fresh outdoor dock at this restaurant on Doelenstraat opposite Rembrandtsplein and next to Hotel De L'Europe. Tuna sandwich so-so but very nice view.
3pm More walking and back to the hotel to pick up bags, then to train station.
4pm Train to the Hague, and Crowne Plaza Hotel. Sort of bland on outside but very nice on the inside with high speed internet access on computers in the rooms. Karen's parents, Ilan and Donna, arrive around 4:30pm.
5-6pm Catching up on internet reading and IMs with everyone.
8pm Preparing to see Madelon and her parents for dinner.
9pm-11pm Nice dinner with everyone at Italian restaurant in the hotel. Madelon looked great. Her dad, Walter, talked to us about fractals and quantum theory- his hobbies.
