June 8, 2002: Day 8 / The Hague
9am Woke, rested after 8 hours of sleep. Beautiful blue sky for the wedding.
10:45am Taxi to museum at nearby beach town (Scheveningen). Coffee and cookies before ceremony. Madelon looks stunning in simple white dress. Sven and all the men wearing classy long tail tuxedos.
12-1pm Ceremony at beautiful room overlooking beach. Moms make speeches. All in dutch, but Madelon's mom translated her speech into English for us.
2pm-3pm Cake and reception at art gallery in centre of the Hague. Quite close to the Binnenhof, very scenic seat of Dutch government. Cake was very good- orange icing to match the flowers.
4pm Back at the hotel for a change from dark grey suit to tuxedo. Karen changes from black dress to colorful party dress.
5pm Taxi to very hip restaurant near earlier reception for five course dinner. Appetizers, salad with meat, gaspacho, steak, and pudding. Coffee later, and lots of speeches. Karen's mom, Donna made a very moving speech about Madelon. Only 35 people present for dinner- very intimate.
9pm Party at art gallery. Hundreds of people. Lots of music- mostly American- and drinks. Later, sat in the garden and talked about how nice it all was.
12am Back at hotel.
