June 14, 2002: Day 14 / Prague

9:15am Woke rested after 8 hours of sleep. Slight stomachache. One week until we leave for New York.
11am Took a seven hour walk all around Prague. First down Parizska Street to the Old Town Square. We took some pictures and took elevators to the top of the Old Town Hall for an amazing view of the city. On the West side of the Vitava River the old Castle and Little Quarter looked like a beautiful ancient town. On the East side, it's an amazing mix of Paris style 18th/19th century buildings. After, we walked down to Wenceslas Square, where protests led to the Velvet Revolution in 1989. After, we got a little lost and wandered North to the Art Nouveau Municipal House, and then back through the square to the hotel.
12:30pm Walked through the ancient Jewish Quarter by the hotel. Visited the Old-New Synagogue, the Jewish Cemetery, and the amazing Holocaust memorial with 80000 names in one of the old temples. Very kaballic and spooky.
2pm Met Denise and Tom and their guide and took the grand tour across the Charles Bridge, up Nerudova Street, and into the castle. The St. Vitus cathedral, built over 600 years, was a totally gigantic mix of all the architectural styles in Prague. The Royal Palace was empty of all furniture, but large and still regal. Golden Lane was more touristy than I expected. Finally, we crossed back to the Jewish Quarter and got our laundry and ate sandwiches.
6pm Back at room in Inter-Continental, totally exhausted. Skipping tonight's opera- no energy for it.
9pm Alone with Karen, walked back to the Old Town Square for drinks behind the Old Town Hall- saw the clock go for the second time today. Walked a little around the Jewish Quarter and ended up having a pretty good meal at Pravda- an international style restaurant on Parizska near the hotel.
12am Came home, had some TV time. [redacted]. Sleep.
