June 16, 2002: Day 16 / Prague to London

4:40am Woken by the usual preflight severe stomachache. Felt a little better after an hour.
6am Cab to airport (Runzyne) through the Sixth district- the neighborhood where the rich people and ambassadors live.
8am Flight to London on British Air- Eric along for the trip back to London. (London 1 hour earlier)
9am Arrive in London. Bid farewell to Eric. Express to Paddington and cab to Radisson Marlborough Hotel on Bloomsbury Street by the British Museum. Tea while we wait for the room, which turns out to be big and very nice. Nice bath room.
10:15am Walk down through Blooms to Holborn and Inns of Court, and down Fleet Street to St. Pauls. Still gigantic. Tired of seeing so many churches and cathedrals. Walked across futuristic Millenium Bridge to spectacular Tate Modern in old Bankside power plant. Amazing Main Space and good collection of modern and contemporary art- lots of British and American stuff. Sandwiches at the Tate cafe were lackluster. After, took a look at Shakespeare's Globe theatre (reconstructed) but didn't hang out.
3pm Bus down Cannon Street to Tower of London. Broke from overly dramatic tour and saw Queen's Jewels, Bloody Tower, and White Tower. Tubed it back to Tottenham Court Road.
6pm Relaxing in Hotel. Slight stomachache- especially strong in the tube on the way back.
7:15pm Walked down Bloomsbury to Covent Gardens. Ate at Porter's, a great cheap English restaurant. I had steak pie and Karen had chicken. We shared chips and salad on the side. After, we were very full and just walked back to the hotel.
9pm Exhausted. Hanging out. Sleep.
