June 18, 2002: Day 18 / London

9:30am Woke rested after 9 hours of sleep, but with a slight hangover.
10:30am Walked down Shaftsbury to Whitehall, past Trafalgar and the Ministry of Defence to Westminster Bridge. Walked across to look at the London Eye- world's biggest ferris wheel, and to get a better look at Big Ben and Parliament from across the Thames.
11:30am Walked to Westminster Abbey and checked out the tombs. Especially liked the monument to Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, and the Poet's Corner. Took a picture of monument to TS Eliot.
12:30pm Walked up to Horseguards and saw extremely cool Cabinet War Rooms Museum. Amazing Map Rooms and ancient technology. Lots of good Churchill info.
1:30pm Stopped at the big Pret on St. Martin's street- Egg Mayo (again). After, checked out Liecester Square and London's surprisingly clean and small Chinatown. Checked availability for Mama Mia, but they didn't have anything good.
2pm Stopped back at hotel, then walked down Great Russell Street to British Museum. Still top of the pops. Very nice Egyptian Mummies and statues and the Elgin Marbles are still there. The best part was the amazing renovation of the Center Court, with the cool glass ceiling.
4pm Checked email and came back to the hotel.
6pm Went for drinks at a pub on the corner of Monmouth and Earlham Street in Covent Gardens.
7pm Good Indian dinner at Mela on Shaftsbury- very hot. Agreed to eat more Indian food back in states.
9pm Resting back at hotel- stomachache quite intense.
