August 7, 2002: Siamese
I really cannot take another story on Siamese Twins- it's like freakshow porn. If I see Stone Phillips doing another twenty-five minute segment on skull separation on Dateline NBC I'm totally going to lose it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a twin. I mean, if I was attached to my twin sister for 15 minutes I'd be getting out the knives myself- even if it meant dying Chang and Eng style. Whatever the case- I hate the medical veneer all these stories take- when you know the producers and editors are just running it for the shock value of some two-headed baby. What's next? I shudder to guess.
Also- tip to our insensitive network news organizations: I believe they prefer the term "conjoined".

I'm pretty fascinated by the conjoined twins. Granted, I can't really bear to look at graphics of the procedures, or watching footage of it without a sedative, but the idea of science trying to tackle something new is the draw. Frances, who just did a rotation in Prague, said that there were so many more cases of medical abnormalities, things we don't see in the States, because the U.S. has effectively wiped out those afflictions or diseases. I think it was good for her, to get that kind of experience, instead of just reading about it in a text book.
Yep- but she's studying medicine. I prefer not to see the skull saw out while I'm trying to choke down my dinner in front of the TV. Knowwhatimean?
Wait, they showed the procedure on TV? Hmm...
I am a bit sick of the coverage too. I wish the babies well, but I don't need to see them rolling around pre-separation. I wonder if they get any anxiety...
Can they remove a parasitic twin, if a baby is born with one?
freakshow
I prefer to think that Molly is the parasitic twin.
