September 14, 2002: Two Bridges in 19 Minutes

It is getting harder to find original skate routes. Sure- I've been able to combine different elements to create skates like Park and Three Bridges, but without doing something insane like skating to the Bronx, I may run out of new routes pretty soon. With all that in mind, I decided to return to one of my favorite old skates- Two Bridges. To spice it up a little, I decided to skate it for speed. I took my time getting over to the base of the Brooklyn Bridge. It was windy as all hell as I ascended from the Manhattan side. The bridge was empty and the wind was against me. I was over and headed toward the base of the Manhattan Bridge in 12 minutes. Skating west toward Manhattan, I had the wind at my back, and it only took 7 minutes to get back to base of the bridge at Bowery and Canal. I've marked the timed portion of the route in green. I'd be willing to bet that a good skater could do the bridges in 15 minutes, and doing them in 10 would not be out of the question for an amateur in top form.

So that was you!

I was in a cab going over the Brooklyn Bridge around 6PM, annoyed at the traffic, and looking out the window... waita minute, that's Jake...

That is a strange NYC coincidence! Are you sure it was 6pm on Saturday?

Were you wearing a white T-shirt? It could have been 5:30... Maybe I am hallucinating...

Yeah- white tshirt and gray skating shorts... skating toward brooklyn.
