October 2, 2002: And will time never pass?
According to Chuck Klosterman's article in Spin, Morrissey has developed a rabid Latino following in East L.A. [Via Lightning Field and elsewhere] It's nice to see that someone is keeping the flame alive after all this time. Some fairly priceless quotes:
“Some nights I lay in my bedroom and I listen to ‘There Is a Light That Never Goes Out,’ and I cry,” he tells me. “I cry and cry and cry. I cry like a little bitch, man.”
"It’s easy to imagine 30-year-old ex-wallflowers digging out their black turtlenecks and reminiscing about how The Queen Is Dead convinced them not to hang themselves while everyone else was at the prom."
"Torres’ take is pretty liberal; a few Latinos at the convention concede that Morrissey might be bisexual, but none would classify him as gay. “People are always asking me if I’m gay because I have a photo of Morrissey hugging Johnny Marr,” says Alex Diaz, a 16-year-old Smiths fanatic who plans on joining the marines when he’s old enough. “My friends always ask me, ‘Why do you like these queers?’ But, you know, he’s probably just bisexual. His songs aren’t all about guys. Look at ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’—that’s about a girl. I think there probably would be some people who’d hate it if Morrissey ever came out and said he was gay, but, personally, I don’t really care. And like I said, he’s probably bisexual.”

Heh! These people are stupid. Clinging to the idea that Morrissey might might might be not totally gay. Chuck Klosterman is pretty subversive.
I also suppose Alex Diaz has never heard gay men refer to each other as girlfriend.
And come on, I mean, all apologies to certain people I know, but it's no accident that in one of the only songs where he sings about a woman, she's in a coma. A coma that was perhaps caused by the boredom engendered by his own total gaity?
I hope I won't have to resort to such tactics when I talk about any future boyfriends. "Well, he's not gay. We may have just gone to see 'Pippin' and he asked me how long it took for me to get my hair done and so what he stared at the waiter. He's dating me, so he can't be gay."

I PERSONALY DNT CARE IF MOZ IS BISEXUAL ALL I KNOW IS THAT HIS MUSIC IS AWESOME IT IS JUST THAT TYPE OF MUSIC THAT U CONECT WITH. AND ONE MORE THING, BISEXUAL OR NOT I THINK HE WAS ONE OF THE HOTEST GUYS AROUND EVEN IF MY FRIENDS THINK AM CRAZY!
