October 3, 2002: West Side Delivery

I was feeling pretty ill on account of a sleepless night, but I knew I had to deliver Jen's belated birthday gift before my own birthday party this coming weekend. With that in mind, I strapped on my skates, threw her presents in a backpack, and hit the West Side Highway path. It's remarkable how nice it is to skate there on a Fall afternoon- empty but for a few fitness types and with this cool breeze blowing off the water. I was curious to see how fast I could make it from Houston to the turn-off at 70th that leads to her apartment (marked in green on the map). The results are not bad, considering the pounding headache I had and the general feeling of distemper:

Distance: 3.6 Miles
Time: 20 Minutes
Average Speed: 10.8 mph

I certainly appreciate your efforts. My new Tweek lunchbox and Tweek figure leave me the coolest person in my building by far (even cooler than the action David Straithairn, William Fichtner, who can currently be seen in "MDs" on ABC or not seen if you watch "Law & Order," on the 7th floor).
