October 19, 2002: Fun Run

Some of my old friends from Columbia College invited me to go on a fun run for cancer research, on account of a friend of ours being ill and also because it is a good cause. The Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research was held in Central Park this morning. The course was about 5k- a little more than 3 miles- and snaked along the East and South sides of the park. There were about thirty people on our fundraising team and maybe two hundred runners total. I started out pretty strong but flagged quickly- apparently running isn't my game. By the halfway mark there were senior citizens, toddlers, and people with crutches passing me at a pretty steady clip. I thought about throwing some elbows, but decided it wasn't in the spirit of the event. Eventually, I caught up to my friend Hilton and together we crossed the finish line with a total time of 31 minutes.
If you would like to contribute to raising money for a good cause, you can sponsor my run.

Nice work, boys.
I ran the Susan Komen Race for the Cure 5k at a 23:50, not bad for fighting off 23,000 other female runners/walkers.
Well whoopdeedoo.
Congrats. Terry Fox was a Canadian you know. As an insecure and self-doubting Canadian I always feel the need to point this out.
