October 25, 2002: Snipers

It is really too bad that Truman Capote is dead, because this whole case is shaping up to be In Cold Blood, Part II. If you haven't read that book, it features two ex-cons who kill a whole family in the midwest in a failed robbery attempt, and their subsequent attempt to flee the juristiction. Sure, there are differences between that case and the sniper situation: those guys were white, and they killed five people all at once and then fled, and it was 1959. But there are also similarities: the strong personality-weak personality combination, the lack of clear motive, the obvious and strange sexual overtones on the relationship between the men. About this last item, I'm surprised nobody in the media has given it more play. Two guys unrelated by blood roaming the country for months at a time and sleeping together in the same car? I'm nominating these guys as the first gay black serial killers in U.S. history.

epolonsky: I thought they were adoptive father and son

TheBlueJake: i can see a lot of "who's your daddy" going on in that chevy caprice

Jake's fevered imaginings aside, is there any real evidence yet about who these people were and why they seem to have lost it so badly?

CNN is describing their relationship as "master-servant". That's pretty strange, isn't it?

Also the diet John Allen had made John Lee follow - crackers, honey, water. Bizarre.

What nice teeth those guys have.

I don't know, but part of the reason no one's bringing up the gay thing may be because Malvo is only 17. But who knows. This makes me so sad that anyone could do this, especialy someone so young...his face reminds me so much of one of my friends - they could be brothers.
