January 31, 2003: Master TMBG Mix

I'm not an expert on much, but I certainly know a lot about They Might Be Giants. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine had a pressing need to become familiar with their work, so I prepared this mix CD for her. I can say without question that it is the best TMBG mix ever made. Are any of you experts on a particular band?

I'd like to say I'd be able to make a killer Built to Spill and Jeff Buckley mixes, but my tastes seem to run more in the "Brit pop" and "brooding boy" vein. How was that Elliot Smith mix I made for you?
My friend, James D., would be able to make a seriously awesome Hefner mix.
I liked the Elliot Smith mix. The rest of your musical taste runs a little queer for me. Speaking of queer mixes, I sometimes regret throwing out all of my Morrissey and Smiths albums back in early 2000. I could have made a pretty good mix with those.
maybe i don't know much about mixtapes, but i'm curious as to why this seems to be arranged by album- i'd imagine that you'd want to "mix" it up a bit- no? anyway i'm only famillar with about a third of the track selections on there, but they are definately some choice cuts. cowtown and ana ng are both off the meter.
I saw they might be giants at prospect park a couple years ago. It was painful.
I think I was at that show! I remember feeling pretty sick, but I think I ate a bad hamburger at the food bar. Their rocking music couldn't have been the cause.
Back to Josh's point, it is weird that you made the mix by album. Unless you were trying to make a point about the differences from album to album. I think when I make mixes, I'm all about the Nick Hornby school of compilation tapes - careful insane planning.
