February 21, 2003: Homage to Thomas Struth

We were up at the Met to see the Thomas Struth show. Karen introduced me to Struth when she was first working at the museum, and she was pretty excited to see the show because she had worked on the contract. For me, Struth was genius at first sight- his photos have an amazing depth and clarity and vibrancy. His subjects also attract me- empty city streets, crowds at museums, architecture, strangely formalistic portraits, pictures of paintings. They were projecting his video portraits on the wall outside the coatcheck, and while Karen was picking up her bag, I took this picture.

The video projection seems like something very new for the Met - you know, it seems more Whitney or Guggenheim than Met. I wonder what other exhibits they've used it for, aside from fashion stuf...maybe it's just a Friday night thing.
yeah- they are trying to hipster up the place a little- next thing you know the museum is moving to long island city.
Hopefully someone can help me- I was very interested in purchasing a Struth Print called "duomo di milano". Does anyone know where I can purchase one at reasonable cost?
