NoLiTa, Sunday Morning

NoLiTa, Sunday Morning

I was sitting outside Cafe Liebowitz waiting for a friend when I spotted this couple leaning out the window across the street. They were talking to an older gentleman who was standing down on the sidewalk. After a little while, they lowered a bag out the window on a long rope, and their friend placed some stuff in it. As I walked into the Cafe, they were pulling the bag slowly up to the window.

That reminds me of Rear Window. Neighbors of Jimmy Stewart, aka LB Jeffries, would transport their dog from their apartment to the garden in the back via a basket.

gatta love the city. :)

seriously- it's just like that kid says in American Beauty: "And that's the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse. But it helps me remember... and I need to remember... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in."

Then again, maybe it's just a couple of old Italians who are too lazy to walk downstairs for the paper. That's why I love New York- everything here depends on how you look at it.

mmm... people spying

yeah, there used to be a lady across the street from me who never left her apartment, and barely spoke a word of english. she would sit next to her window all day chatting with people on the street. every day or so she would have someone do some shopping for her using a similar rope and basket set-up. we always assumed she was writing the great american novel. then she died.
