April 17, 2003: The proper way to say "Moblogging"

I'm thinking about doing a travelblog again this summer- it will appear in the normal Bluejake space. Over the last year, some people have begun to use the word "moblogging" to describe this kind of mobile blogging. "Moblogs" are usually photologs, taken with those cool cameras included with some new cell phones, or with hiptop devices like the Danger Sidekick. My summer moblogging will probably be done with a laptop, mobile phone, and digital camera, so it might look a little different than the other moblogs out there in the blogosphere.

The more I thought about all this, the more I realized that I had no idea how to pronounce the word "moblogging". So I decided to ask a few people, by sending out an email with this question: "What is the proper pronunciation of "moblogging"? I offer three alternatives for you to pick from: a) mo-blogging b) mob-logging c) ma-blogging."

My sampling method was admitedly unscientific, but the general consensus seemed to be evenly split between the three choices, so I still have no idea how to pronounce this word. The funniest responses came from Heather and Meg:

[Meg] That's a tough one, because while it's about "mobile" blogging, there's also the whole "smart mobs" thing going on too. I've been calling it c) ma-blogging, or maybe d) mob-blogging. Let me know if you hear other ways of saying it, I don't want to seem uncool! ;)

[Heather] that's a very good question. i personally pronounce moblogging as in your example "a." but then, i'm canadian, so i'm sure it's something else entirely.
