April 20, 2003: L.A. Journal, Day 3

5am Woke up with one of those non-specific heart racing kind of feelings. Best guess is that it was due to all the Cognac I drank- or proposing marriage not 12 hours before. Stomach hurt until 6am. Slept on and off until 9.

9am Got out of bed and watching some news- people were already calling to congratulate K and her parents- lots of smiles all around.

10am More matzoh- this time in the form of matzoh brei. Amazing- tasted like eggs and sugar. All food should contain matzoh.

12pm Drove down to Santa Monica and went walking along Adeleide with K's parents. E went for a run while we walked down to Ocean Avenue and through Palisades Park. The weather was still amazing- warm and breezy with a hint of high haze. There were plenty of boats in the harbor and a lot of people down on the beach path. We walked down quite a ways before retracing our steps.

2pm E, I, and I drove over to the Brentwood Country Club. They played tennis while I swam in the giant olympic size pool. No one was there- it was just me floating on my back looking up at the sky. I was in there for about an hour, floating and thinking about things. The water was warm and things felt peaceful and serene. Eventually they finished their game and we drove down to Santa Monica to get some chicken for dinner.

5pm K and her dad cooked while I caught up on all the email and messages from everyone. There were many phone calls and K's parents wanted to call my parents in Brooklyn to congratulate them. They talked for a few minutes and everyone seemed very happy.

6pm We started a BBQ up on the roof and took some pictures while the chickens cooked. It was still warm and K and I stood against the railing looking southwest. The Mormon temple was in the background.

7pm Dinner- lots of good food- chicken and wine and salad. A came over to say goodbye to E, who was leaving for D.C. on the red-eye at 9pm. Together we all talked about the engagement and the wedding and I eventually called my parents to get a ballpark figure so we could nail down a location.

9pm My eyes are still bloodshot from the chlorine earlier today, but I feel happy. Los Angeles is an amazing place when you share it with the right people. We're going to drink some tea, watch some T.V., and then go to sleep. Thanks for all the calls and emails- they were much appreciated.
