August 11, 2003: Standard at sunset

Downtown Los Angeles is probably the second most beautiful skyscraper neighborhood in America. It's got this amazing mix of new glass towers and old brick buildings, and even the street names are cool: Flower, Figueroa, Hope, Hill. The best place to see everything is from the roof of the Downtown Standard hotel, right as the sun goes down.

Jake, just been checking out your blog for the first time in a few weeks. Compulsive as ever mate. Congratulations!
Meant compulsive reading :-)
It's crazy that the big day is less than a year away. I envision myself a year from today, the 15th, hungover and found by the Four Seasons staff sleeping on the lawn.
Hmm, that comment was supposed to go on a different post.
Anyway, I like the Westin Bonaventure. I used to think it was the coolest building in the world. Of course it's not but my childish naivetee still charms me.
You're nuts. I can think of 3 skylines that are FAR superior to LA's off the top of my head.
I just stayed at the Standard on Sunset Blvd., but the Downtown Standard looks pretty cool!
And I agree that the skyline of Downtown LA is probably the best in the nation, or just maybe second best to NYC.
