August 16, 2003: Biking

I love to skate, but I hate to bike. It all goes back to the awful summer of 1992, when I went on a bike trip across Vermont and Quebec. It took about 10 minutes for my bad attitude and weak biking skills to alienate the other kids on the trip, and after a particularly bad accident caused by my reckless disregard for human life (obese girl, tree), I was not spoken to for the remaining two weeks. Still, the rental skates at the Santa Monica pier had a particularly appalling stench, so I elected to take out a bike instead. Word to the wise: if you want to take pictures while you ride, stop the bike first.

Sometimes I feel like skating is a lot more dangerous than biking.. even though you always see people on bikes with helmets.. but rarely people on skates with protective head gear.
i think it probably comes out to be about the same- i mean, if you get hit by a car, it doesn't matter what you were doing.
