October 11, 2003: Cultural artifact

2003_10_oven.jpg

One of my professors asked everyone in the class to bring in a cultural artifact from one of the places we had worked before coming back to school. There was lots of squeezy toy shwag on display, and glass closing trophies from the i-bankers, and motivational posters from the marketers, but I think the simple post-it note that I brought to class was also interesting. It was given to me on the day Oven Digital closed for the first time, by Henry, the president of the company, as a sort of farewell souvenir. It's sad and it's sweet, and sort of reminds me of what it was like to work in the heyday of the internet boom. What does it say about Oven's corporate culture? I'm not sure- maybe that we were better moral philosophers than businessmen- better thinkers than workers.
