November 10, 2003: Grand Central Station

After all the empty streets and darkness last week, I've been feeling a strong urge to be surrounded by crowds. With a few minutes to kill before a meeting in midtown, I decided to take in the masses from one of my favorite vantage points- the East staircase at Grand Central Station. As always, what really draws my eye is the points of stillness in the crowd. Each of the pictures above was a 15 second exposure- so the people that you can make out clearly were standing very, very still. [Related: Grand Central at 12pm]

these are really great, they remind me of the ice skaters in the park or rockefellar center a little bit..
Very interesting technique - I'll have to give it a try sometime...
