Mindy posted something about the Thanksgiving Balloon Inflation on the Gothamist Events page- so I thought I'd go up and see what it was all about. Well, I found out- it's all about crowds, mayhem, and lots of neck-mounted-toddlers poking you in the eye with their tiny little feet. Anyway- it was all going fine and well until I rounded 81st, and beheld a most unpleasant sight- Kermit taking it from behind! I mean, there it is, right in the image- that scary doll with a satisfied mid-thrust smile, Kermit sprawled on all fours. I need some serious therapy!

jimmy neutron looks absolutely fiendish! did you take the tripod? (I could have used one.) ...more balloons at rion.nu.

yep- i was shooting with my small, folding plastic tripod- the Ultrapod 2. You can get it at B&H for like $15, and there's a metal model that is a little more sturdy for the heavier cameras. The advantage of the ultrapod is that it also has a velcro strap, for attaching the pod to poles- i used that to get a lot of the shots last night.

Great nighttime photos. A view of New York that you don't often see.

I think this is absolutely fabulous. you're a great photographer, but I'm sure you've heard that one before.

i want to meet more photographers in nyc*

keep doing whatever it is you're doing.
