December 7, 2003: West Village 3

The West Village seems like it would be a nice place to paint, or write poetry, or drink yourself to death- I think Dylan Thomas did all three back in the 1950s. Back about a million years ago, my friend Sarah would sometimes take me out for drinks at the Lion's Head- this famous literary bar over on Christopher Street. All these grizzled journalists and failed writers used to hang out in the back room- like some window into the past. Of course, the Lion's Head is now closed- Kettle of Fish opened in the same space- and I have no idea where writers, poets, and painters hang out now- maybe Williamsburg or Long Island City? A housewife with 2 kids living in the south enjoys your site. IMAGINE THAT!
Very interesting photos of these unique structures. The saturation of the colors are extraordinary.
Thanks for the links of the walking tours.
