December 14, 2003: NoLIta 2

Unlike the West Village or NoHo, NoLIta has fairly well defined and agreed on borders: Houston Street on the North, Bowery on the East, Lafayette on the West, and Broome or Kenmare Street on the South. When walking the streets this past week, I found the neighborhood is actually smaller than the borders would suggest: for instance, NoLIta really only includes one building on all of Bowery- the rest of that street belongs to the Lower East Side. Another thought that I had a few times while walking around: NoLIta is what you'd get if Chinatown and the West Village had a baby. What if Jersey and Queens had a baby? Would it be Long Island?
that is so true! let me do another: caroll gardens is the baby that park slope and cobble hill would have if they got busy.
Henry - Don't know how to tell you this, but Queens is ON Long Island. Brooklyn, too.
oh my god! i've been living a lie all these years.
Sterling, don't be stupid. Of couse everyone knows Queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island, but everyone knows there's a difference. Same as Staten Island is part of New York City, but its a world of difference from Manhattan.
