I'm bringing back the spirograph for two reasons: 1) the popular success of the first spirograph project, and 2) my total lack of other ideas. Anyway- this time I took the spirograph out of the shower and moved it to different locations in the apartment. Instead of using a Maglight, as I did in the first project, I used an Energizer ArcWhite as the light source (details on this Flashlight from not one, but two websites devoted to flashlight reviews!) The ArcWhite has a 3" white flourescent lamp attached to the side- I used this feature to produce the thick, sweeping line in the spirograph2 images. I think it has a caligraphic quality- but unfortunately, it gives off way too much light for my Canon G2. Perhaps I'll repeat this experiment if I ever get a camera with a smaller aperature.

Why don't you do a NYC brownstone project?

I like ducky and glowing towel and the reflection on the tiles in the first shot. I like the ones with the tiles as a backdrop. If you want to change the width of the lightbrush you might be able to paint over the lens of the flashlight or use bits of paper to make a line or shape. Kind of like barndoors without the doors. Would it work if you made a figure of the phantom on the lens? Does is make any difference the speed at which you move the lightbrush as to the stroke that you get? This looks like fun, I think I will have to try it. I might try putting different colored bulbs in the socket or painting on them.
