I bought a new camera, the Canon Digital Rebel, and I took it out to my favorite plastic shop on Canal Street for some test pictures. So far, so good, but it does raise a few issues. For instance, the Rebel takes pictures at a 4.5x3 aspect ratio, which leads to 585x390px images when I put them up on Bluejake. This feels a little skinny after the 4x3 images from the Canon G2. Should I crop back to the 4x3, or do you think it doesn't matter?

I think the new picture proportion is fine. What feels skinny is your right-column stuff.
At 1024 x 768 you could get some girth on those suckers.

The pictures look fantastic. I love Industrial Plastics. I got a whole lot of stuff for my projects from them. Whenever I'm in town, I go buy some cubes and spheres to put in vases to hold flowers, and to put on the bed of my future fishtank. Those hemisphere domes were aresome too.

ha! christa always wants me to take it wider! the main reason i'm keeping it at 150px wide is that it matches the width on the right column at gothamist. for some reason, i want to keep everything on the same basic grid system.

aha! excellent! images are now super-sized!

I like the new aspect ratio better. Also, the pictures are nice.

i discovered that plastic store on a lunch break around halloween time when i was searching for costume ideas. it's awesome. i dont know what i would do with most of the stuff but it still amazes me.

I prefer the more rectangular ratio. More like a 35mm.

I love the canon rebel and I love canal plastics, but I live in LA now, so your photos made me happy
