Bluejake has been a little dark recently, what with the NoHo at night and the projects and wandering around Gowanus and so on. Winter tends to bring me down- I'm not skating, and it's hard to get around. Luckily, it's impossible to be depressed when you have a kitty like Thompson wandering around the house. Sure, he's got ringworm, a bad GI system, and a perpetual cold, but he's still my best friend. Sorry J0sh!

Thompson's getting big. You need to find a good hat for him. It will accentuate his nonchalant/les than thrilled to meet you demeanor.

i want to make it clear: thompson is not squinty- he just squints in photos. he's actually wide-eyed and incredibly friendly. and he cries when he is left alone!

Where's the wombat?

Still lovin the hamock. A little catnip, a little catnap....who's better than Thompson....nobody.

i'm not sure if this is a philosophical or epistemological question, but it's really been bugging me: i want to know if thompson loves me like i love him. that is, does he love me personally, or just as the person that brings him food? if i went out and got hit by a bus, would he miss me? i mean, me personally? karen thinks that kind of love is above his abilities, but i'm not so sure. it seems clear that he has the basic emotions- excitement, fear, desire, happiness, contentment- but does he get into the more advanced emotions like love? has anyone looked into this?

i just want to know that the cat has some kind of internal life- that he's not just an extremely cute and furry robot.

I think he would miss you, Jake Dobkin, versus you, that human person who happens to be there. He has as poor a GI system as you (he can sense the empathy), and you guys enjoying French kissing. So, yes, Jake, Thompson loves you you you.

well said.

most housecats will love ya more than just bearer of food and changer of litter. but they'd probably love you less if you didn't perform the above tasks in addition to your human charm.

I think you can form a bond with animals which goes beyond their nature, but it's possible that if Thompson were big enough, he'd eat you.

Yeah cats with those short noses will get colds often

We have that same couch.

Thompspon definately has the capability to love. I myself am a dog person and I know when i go on a trip my dog does get depressed. There is a unique bond that maybe we will never understand but it is there!

Does Thompson snore?

no- he's the quietest cat in the world- he rarely makes any noise, except when we put him outside the bedroom and close the door. then he cries like a little baby.
