January 14, 2004: Beard

beard, salmanca, spain, 1997

beard, manhattan, new york, 2004

I've grown many a beard in my time, mostly out of laziness. I simply do not enjoy shaving. I've tried the Gilette Mach series, electric razors, and straight razors, but nothing really helps. My skin, like my ego, is simply too sensitive. The best beard I ever grew was in the summer of 1997- I was in Europe and didn't shave for 11 weeks. The result was the goatee pictured at the top, which I submit would rival the goatee of any weblogger, even the famous goatee of Anil Dash. I've not shaved since January 1st, but this beard will meet its death tomorrow evening, because I have to begin interviewing on Friday.

That is some manly facial hair but it can not light a candle to my goat.

keep the beard. it looks good.

I had a beard once but I couldn't stand it after a couple of days. thank god she left town to go to grad school last fall and I haven't seen her since.

Ron P - hilarious.

you know, i'm starting to look more and more taxi driver all the time. it's a concern.

Yeah, but do you go to the Bronx?

love the beard. keep it (or if i'm too late, grow it back)!

oh ya jen, it was all pretty funny UNTIL I went to some weird after hours party and someone asked me to shave my beard. BLECH!

jake, from the new pictures, it looks like you still have it. does that mean you're getting into the taxi driver look?

well, I like it too. but when it advances to a taxi look, a la tony danza or kenickie, I'll be the first to help you shave.

seriously, let me help you shave. >:)

i'm liking the bearded look though ;)
