Rachelle and Tien Mao inspired me to check out the newly reopened NY Transit Museum, and as always, I enjoyed it. Growing up, my dad's office was around the corner from the museum, so I've been there a number of times. There's nothing spookier than being down on the lower platform alone, walking through train car after abandoned, antique train car. Sadly, lighting conditions at the museum are not ideal for photography. These were the best I could do- I'm not satisfied with their focus or general quality.

and has anyone else ever seen an MTA bathroom? i've been riding the trains for 27 years and i don't remember ever seeing the inside of one!

i guess it was pretty empty if you went there on a weekday. very cool place though.

i think there is a working bathroom at union square and at city hall.

whenever i hear the word "inspiration" i get that cheesy 80s chicago song in my head.

i'm glad you liked our photos and that they made you want to visit the museum.. like you said the lighting in there was tough, and I was dissatisfied with how many of my photos came out as well. i think all the cool kids are going to the transit museum right now.. it looks like david gallagher was there last week - 1 - 2

The only MTA bathroom I know of, is the end of the platform after a night a drinking.

i just saw a morrisey vid on classic vh1 last night where he was sporting one of these...the camera that is..he also rode a tractor...va va va vooom

further evidence that i am totally uncool.

thanks Jake (and Tien and Rachelle)

I took my nephews there when they visited before the renovation - have to head back soon, I walk by it everyday

I remember seeing a platform bathroom (14th street?) one wasted night, and I was staring and contemplating when my buddy yelled at me
"dude have you totally lost your mind?"

that's a true friend

A few cool things about the museum that were always cool, even before it reopened:

- The subway car that is 100 (that's one hundred) years old.
- The old, funny-looking tokens hanging on a wall.
- The virtually unreadable subway maps from the 1930s hanging on another wall.
- The purchasable metal train conductor badges in the store (I bought one and can't seem to find a place to wear it!).

I used an MTA restroom at Times Square a few years ago. Actually, that was March, 2001, so it's probably been walled shut by now. My friend Jen and I found a bottle of perfume and sprayed it on every foul-smelling surface from there to Delancey. We were not drinking, of course.
