February 10, 2004: Steven Johnson @ ITP

Last night Steven Johnson was giving a short talk about his new book Mind Wide Open, so Jason and I decided to check it out. Johnson is a fascinating science writer- his first book explored emergent phenomenons in nature. I haven't read Mind Wide Open yet, but it explores recent developments in neuroscience from a decidedly personal vantage point. An added bonus was that the lecture was held at NYU's ITP space, so Jason and I spent most of the time checking out the various student multimedia projects. My favorite was the wood block piece that replicated a dot matrix display. Later on, we went to Acme for burgers and then home to see Thompson.

Shockingly, Thompson seems underwhelmed by Jason. Stop drugging the cat, Dobkin!
I am moist over those hardwood floors and the brick on the one wall. no sensory overload from having brick 360° around you. I bet your decorator can beat up my decorator.
i am just wondering if anyone has read steven johnsons book, mind wide open, and what they thought of it. thanx
