February 17, 2004: World Trade Center PATH Station

I got rejected from a summer job at a place I would have liked to work at- so I was in a visciously bad mood by the early evening. To clear my head, I decided to take a walk, and after an hour or so I found myself down by Ground Zero. Since I had last visted, they opened the new PATH station. The place struck me as being both beautiful, functional, and respectful to the site- if a little bit empty. It's probably as charming as any tomb can hope to be. After walking around for a little while, I wandered up the East Side to South Street Seaport. I was still pissed off about the job, but a visit to the World Trade Center has a way of snapping things into perspective.

I think from the exterior, it looks respectful and proud, but JW and I were inside the PATH Station on Sunday and found it way cold. It's a wind tunnel.
My girlfriend and I were there shortly after it opened. It was a rainy day, and the slick concrete flooring was hazardous; we saw several people wipe out.
Your photos show off its simple beauty very well, but there's something very antiseptic about it.
I love longer exposures, especially when people are walking by. Looks like a trail of ghosts walking through.
thanks for the glimpse at NYC and ground zero. we don't get to see much of that here in the bible belt. sorry about the summer job but your words echo a sentiment that more people should adhere to.
A company incapable of seeing what your being there would offer stands no chance for success in the future.
Nice pics.
I was in that PATH station Monday during the day, found it very attractive- something about all the open space was just very appealing. I seem to recall it was indeed freezing cold, though, and the slippery floors do not sound like a good thing either.
Great pictures! I was just there two weeks ago.
