Mary's Fish Camp

Growing up, I hated eating fish. It all goes back to the time my parents told me that we were having chicken cutlets for dinner, and it turned out to be fish cutlets. I was traumatized for life. Anyway, fast forward about 15 years, and K has been slowly getting me into various seafood. She started out simple, with shellfish, and I've gotten really addicted to the plateaus of oysters, clams, and lobster available at some of the downtown restaurants. My all time favorite is the plateau at Balthazar, but the one I had last week at Mary's Fish Camp was delicious. For $20, it made a very filling lunch. Another suggestion: order the plateau at The Mermaid Inn as your main entree- they've got a great selection of oysters almost every night.

Damn, those photos are making me hungry. I LOVE Mary's Fish Camp. The lobster roll is so g-d delicious. One of my favorite meals in NYC.

Blue Ribbon Brooklyn has great oysters.

That fish in the painting looks nervous, like he's next in the skillet.
You should try mussels, they're great. Here's to not keeping Kosher!

My parents tried pulling the same crap on me. I knew my "chicken cutlets" that night weren't the real thing. Bastards.
