March 16, 2004: Chicago 2
When I first visit a new city, I pore over maps, trying to identify and memorize the geography, locations of major attractions, and the names of the big neighborhoods. Then I turn my attention to the streets. I like the names of Chicago streets: Racine, Wabash, Wacker, Dearborn, La Salle, Lake Shore Drive. It's almost like they were written in a different language than the one we use in New York.

The Mercantile Room in the Art Institute is one of my favorite places in that museum. Of course, I have a lot of favorite places in that museum. (The Chagall Windows being another)
