March 20, 2004: Law & Order 1 (!)
I've only ever had two dreams for my life: to visit the set of Law & Order, and to eat brunch with the two Johns from They Might Be Giants. Dream number one came true yesterday, thanks to a very special friend of Gothamist. Jen and I were escorted on a wonderful behind the scenes tour of all the sets, including the forensic lab, the courtroom, and the police precinct. Afterwards, we got to watch Jerry Orbach, Jesse L. Martin, and S. Epatha Merkerson do a scene in Lt. Van Buren's office. As a special bonus, we got to take home a copy of the script, and a couple of other choice Law & Order souvenirs. I'll post a few more pictures tomorrow, but right now I just want to sit here and think about the visit. Best day ever!

Jesse is as hot in person - and he's very nice. In fact, the whole cast and crew were amazing - really welcoming and helpful. It was such a great experience. I could gush and gush about it, but I'll save that for the Gothamist post in a few days.
But I will say that Jake and I would turn to each other, giggle giddily, and grin maniacally, as evinced in the photos.
Wow, Jerry Orbach looks better in your picture than on the show! Isn't he at least 70? He looks great!

A former friend had dinner with the Johns from TMBG in London a number of years ago. She informed them that she loved their adaptation of the children's book "Nightgown of the Sullen Moon." They were crestfallen and bemused; neither one of them knew that it was a book at all--they'd taken it from a friend's child's artwork. Imagine the worldview shattered when they learned a child doesn't necessarily operate in a tabula rasa, Scottish Enlightenment, copyright-free zone. Lesson: Be careful what you wish for, and "Homicide" off-air is still better than "Lawn Order" could ever hope to be.
