April 1, 2004: Kinja!

Nick always throws a good shindig, and the launch party for Kinja was no exception. To me, it was the perfect party population: programmers, writers, artists, editors, and bloggers. And bajesus- Nick's new loft is spectacular- windows on Spring and Crosby, a beautiful polished steel kitchen. Straight out of Architectural Digest. Eliot and his magic photography spoon were also on hand- his pictures are, as usual, top notch. More pictures are available in the gallery section. [Related: Fleshbot launch, Gizmodo party, reception for Ben and Mena]
I can't take credit for the spoon trick - that goes to Amanda Hesser.
amanda hesser- cook, writer, photographer- she has it all.
So the other day, I was at the whitest party ever...
d'oh! it's true- just the other day, karen was telling me that i've got to get a fake tan before the wedding, b/c i've become so pale that i'm actually looking a bit green.
Magic photography spoon trick? Care to share/explain?
basically slower uses the spoon to redirect his flash up towards the ceiling- it creates much better lighting for portraits. sivan does the same thing, but instead of a spoon, she uses a little piece of napkin to diffuse the flash. i'm not coordinated enough to hold anything besides the camera, so i just ordered a canon speedlite flash, which i can tilt straight up, instead of straight at the subject.
