April 4, 2004: Painter

I was never much of a painter. In high school, I worked mainly in Krylon aerosol paint, but the graffiti I produced was sub-par. When I was at Columbia, I went through an Andy Warhol/popart period, working mainly in acrylics and spray paint, and while some of the work was interesting, it never added up to much. During that time, I'd often reuse the stencils that I made for the paintings, stencil-bombing the scaffolding and walls around campus. The other day, I was walking up Grand Street in SoHo, and I noticed a faded stencil that I must have sprayed in 1997. It had held up pretty well. I haven't picked up a can or a brush in about 6 years- I think the world is better off with me messing around with a camera. jesus- wasn't i the person who said personal posts make bad blogging? what is wrong with me this week? but that's it- i'm getting back my blogging form. from now on, it's nothing but buildings, empty streets, and law&order sets.
Ah, but some might say that all posts are personal - after all isn't a blog just one big editorial page? And anyhow, if you didn't put these up, then I wouldn't be able to bear witness and attest to the fact that such works as these were shown at the influential and now legendary One Night Stand art keggers staged at Columbia University which has produced another bona fide by the name of Tom Sanford
it's true- the one night stand parties did have their share of good artists. in particular, i like tom's paintings, brook's cowboy stuff, and bridget mullen's oil canvases. good times, long ago! i saw tom last week at james' funeral- he looked chiseled.
I have a crate of some of your paintings in my closet. Any guesses to the value? Or is the crate worth more?
ur art work sucks my balls
