I found an old Sunpak flash that I bought for one of my SLRs. It doesn't work all that well with the Canon G2, because it's designed for the Nikon automatic exposure system. Still, it's fine as a full manual flash, or as a stand alone fill unit. It also works pretty well for long exposure shots- I took these last night on my roof. It's tricky to get the flash to fill enough to get the face, but not so much that it whites everything out.

useless flash or not, those photos came out cool.

Yeah it's always hard to control flash in long exposure shots, I struggle with flash/strobe lighting myself. But shooting digital helped a lot since you are getting instant feedback on if the lighting worked and you can keep trying till you get something you like. These shots looks great, how long are your exposures for these shots?

these are all 30 second exposures- the longest the digital rebel allows without bulb mode. i'm getting the remote control for the DR, so i should be able to do unlimited long exposures- although i'm pretty sure you'd get bad grain with anything longer than 5 minutes. i'd like to do some 2.5 hr bulb exposures of things like the sky at night.

the fstop was f8 for these, i think- maybe a little smaller.

The grain/color noise level is really good for 30s, I'm quite bummed out with the D2h and how insanely grainy it is for anything pass 15s. I played with the D70 recently and it does an amazing job in low light. I'm jealous... and that you have roof access at your building.

sweet shots man.

Hot!

these photos look like something out of xmen, really like the 5th photo.

The sky looks amazing.
