I'm obsessed with the Hollywood sign. I love the idea that a piece of real estate advertising has become a symbol of civic pride- it makes me wonder why we don't have a Manhattan sign, or a Brooklyn sign. Anyway, I'm always trying to get up a little bit closer to the sign. Previously, I've seen it from Griffith Park, but today I got closer- first at the famous Hollywood sign dog-run park, and then on a hiking trail that runs a few hundred feet below the sign. Later, I made my way up the side streets to the cul-de-sac where all the tourists take their Hollywood sign shots. From there, a dusty and disused road extends up towards the sign, but many "No Trespassing" posters warn of $103 fines for visiting any closer. I'd gladly pay that much to get a few shots at the foot of each letter and from the ridge behind the sign, but I wasn't sure if that road actually went the whole way up. ha- this one was just to drive my photographer friends crazy. each of the pictures is slightly different, but overwhelmingly the same- i was going to call the posts "12 identical pictures of the hollywood sign"- but it didn't fit.
Someone should start a photoblog editorial service, I have the same problem with posting too many pictures per post.
I can totally see it, some neckless personal trainer type guy standing behind you going "Bad composition! Bad exposure! No no no! This one is totally shit! That one is ok but that's it's! No more! Or I'll break you!"
Have you seen "South San Francisco / The Industrial City"? Not all city-signs-on-mountains are good things.
