I've been having a bit of the old photographer's block this week- I can't seem to think of anything I want to shoot. On a whim, I took the train down to Smith and 9th Street last night- the highest point in the NYC subway system. I shot around for a few minutes, trying to figure out a good way to capture the gloom, and then I went for a walk down towards the Gowanus Canal. After a few minutes, it started to rain, so I packed up the gear and went and met Liz at Pepe Viola on Smith Street for dinner.

not to be a nit-picky whiner, but...pepe viola is no longer part of the chain of wonderful pepes [including verde, giallo, and rosa]. they actually split about a year and a half ago and go only by "Viola" now. I am sensitive about this because it used to be my boyfriend and mine's favorite restaurant - and the food has suffered significantly since the split. wah!

Not even close to the highest spot above sea level, but it is the highest elevated station compared to the ground under it.

thanks for letting me see what is normally not a big deal to me (as I pass thru smith and 9th all the time) through your camera lens. these are beautiful.

i really need to learn how to take good pictures.
