May 8, 2004: Hazy Day on the Staten Island Ferry

Every so often I think it's helpful to get some distance from New York. Foreign travel is ideal for this purpose- whether to Paris or Tokyo or Staten Island. Yesterday, I took the 3:30pm ferry outbound to St. George, along with ten thousand French tourists and five hundred school kids going home for the week. Despite the throngs, I found a couple of quiet spots to shoot. [Unrelated: At GEL, Matt captured me in full form.]

Hey, Gothamist Guy... Brooklyn Promenade dad here again, and again, great snaps. There's nothing better than the ferry, a free cruise (who needs the QM2). I thinkthe ferry is one of the best tings about the city... so much so I proposed to my wife on it. See you around!
i love the staten island ferry- it offers great views of the verrazono, the statue of liberty, and the southern manhattan skyline. i'd like to check out the ferry to sunset park next week- might be interesting to see the other side of gov's island.
The second shot is great - the hazy city in the wake of the Staten Island Ferry. And the best Staten Island Ferry movie ever is Working Girl.
That's a great shot off the back of the ferry, like am i free, or am i a prisoner of my fate, er fat...that guy has back fat!
great shoulders and lats tho.
There's always the hoboken ferry.
I love the shot of lower Manhattan from the Ferry. I downloaded it for a desktop picture. Thanks!
