May 18, 2004: Abandoned Tracks

As part of Psy Geo Conflux, Mike led a tour of an abandoned LIRR rail line out near Cypress Hills in Queens. After hiking through a lot of poison ivy and some thicket, we found the old rail line, built on a bit of a rise between two blocks of houses. The highlights of the hike were the Woodhaven and Atlantic Avenue platforms, which were beautifully decayed. that is one wonderful map.
these pictures, and the last set, are great.
Why?
This doesnt look like fun......
This is really cool stuff. I always find abandoned buildings and infrastructures to be so interesting. There's so much history in these places. I remember finding a WWII bomb shelter with my friends when I was a kid.
So what is this Psy Geo Conflux thing? Do you guys do tours of decaying urban spaces?
I wish I could've been there.
Great shots!! Looks like fun. How do you find out about these things?
those are cool pictures! I live in Woodhaven. Where exactly is it?? I would love to visit tbere some times. It's also funny how the 104 street plateform looks so different when you take a picture of it than in person.
nevermind. i saw the map. thanks
I arrived here courtesy of satanslaundromat.com. I'm in love with the short-haired chick in pic #1...
This years Psy Geo Conflux wasn't publicized nearly as well as last years. I didn't hear about it until maybe the day before. Frustrating.
