May 21, 2004: Drinks at Nick's

Taking pictures at social functions is difficult for me. If I have the camera out the whole time, I forget to talk to people, and end up with a lot of pictures but no memory of the event itself. At least, that's what happened at the blogger's thing at the Apple Store earlier this month. It was a shame, and I ended up feeling like a prick- after all, the reason I take pictures is to share the experience of my life with you, not to miss out on it myself. To avoid this sort of thing in the future, I made up a new rule: if I bring a camera to a party, I only take it out at the end, and even then, only for a few minutes. Implementation number one was at Nick's pre-PDN party for the excellent photographer Adrian Weinbrecht. Results: a definite improvement. [Related: I am not a vampire.]

hahaha
I know what you mean. I think thats why I got more into photography then video. On trips or whatever, I'd find myself more absorded in trying to get good captures then actually spending any time taking in what was going on around me. At least with photography you can capture that moment and still be left with time to enjoy it for yourself.
Um...because I'm obessessed with these sorts of things...is that Nick's kitchen?? If so, we need more pictures of it. It's beautiful.
i think that's a great strategy.. by the end of these events you, and everyone else, will be good and drunk.. that's when you get the classic photos.. like this boob shot, or you other boob shots. one day, i hope for some naked guy shots to go along with them.
wait- is that a nipple in the picture? i'm not sure it is. and the next time i come to chicago, i'm coming back with racelleb boob shots, or i'm not coming back at all.
That's not my nipple.
