May 30, 2004: Uptown

It's been about two months since James passed away, and yesterday many of his friends went up to Bronxville for a fun run in his honor. I'm not much of a runner, but I do like to bike, so instead I went on a long ride up to Inwood and back. It took about two hours to get up to Baker Field at 218th Street along the west side, and then another couple of hours to get back to SoHo along the east side of the island. I followed the Greenway path for most of the ride- it's been advertised by the City as a complete path around Manhattan, and it largely lives up to that reputation. It does deviate from the waterfront from 160th to 120th Street, and then again from 63rd to 37th, but rumor has it that they will be building out those strips in the next few years. Total distance? About 25 miles, give or take. Not bad on a bike that has only one gear!

Great shots! One of our rights of passage was diving off the Columbia C.
