Prospect Park has a split personality. On the west side of the park, you find the well kept Long Meadow and the ball fields and the bandshell, but as you move east, you find yourself in spooky, impenetrable woods. The sounds of tribal drums float through the trees, and it's impossibly dark. Eventually you see some light floating through the trees, and stumble out on the bridge across from the old Boat House. Nearby there are hundreds of Caribbean BBQs going on alongside the great lake. As you follow the lake back towards Park Slope, the sounds of shouting and laughter recede, and once again it's peaceful- nothing but the sounds of birds and the wind blowing through the reeds. Midnight in Prospect Park- a beautiful time for a walk. [Unrelated: Matt put together a great piece on the subway photo ban, with quotes from some of us NYC photobloggers; the details for Sunday's protest are now available]

the two photos with the planes are great. love how you can see them off the water.

Yeah, those exposures had to be longer than 15 seconds...?

I like those, and the cabin just above them.

The picture of the blue tunnel is arresting. Nicely done!

These are great shots, especially the gazebo/cabin/wooden structure (third from the bottom.)

these were all 30 second exposures- i got there around 9pm, so the top ones make it seem much brighter than it actually was. as i moved east through the park, it was darker, so i had to open up the lens- from f22 all the way up to f4 for the gazebo shot. if you look closely, i think there is some blurriness from small DoF along the right side of the image.

The color in all of these shots is beautiful. I agree with Alison, I think that blue tunnel shot is amazing.

Jake -- each one of these shots is terrific, and all for different reasons. The reflection, the jet trails, the eerie lighting. Nice work.

These pictures are wonderful. The color is great and they a feeling of being alive.

How did you shoot the 5th picture down, the blue tunnel. Thanks. It's fantastic!

As a former Park Sloper now exiled to Seattle, these pix are bringing tears to my eyes.

Jake has a way of effectively using avaliable light. Some photographers would have said "it cant be done without more light" But he has done it and it shows a lot about his talent.
